Ryokan Hostel Gion was a fantastic experience overall. the setup was extremely clean and faultless, with all the necessary amenities provided, including shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, hairdryers. the location was excellent, and I highly recommend renting a bicycle from just past the bus station. the staff were incredibly helpful and gave great recommendations for tasty and affordable places to eat. I felt very safe with the key card access to the rooms and showers, and the dormitory cells were surprisingly spacious, allowing me to comfortably fit my luggage inside. The location of the hostel was great, within walking distance to bus/subway stations and cultural sites. The hostel offered good facilities like a rooftop, laundry room, and kitchen. The dorms were clean and provided enough privacy and security. The bathrooms were also clean and well-stocked with amenities. One of the highlights was the cozy atmosphere, where guests could gather around the table to share travel stories.
The lockable compartment in the dorm was smaller compared to other hostels in Japan. It would be better if there were soft close hinges to prevent it from slamming shut.

During our recent stay at a hostel in Kyoto, we were pleasantly surprised by the cleanliness and comfort of the accommodations. The room had a unique design with a tatami mat and separate area for personal belongings. Everything was well-maintained and quiet, allowing us to get a good night's sleep. The hostel also provided complimentary toiletries and changed our towels daily. Additionally, the location was perfect, with easy access to public transportation and nearby shops and restaurants. We also appreciated the option to rent a bike for a reasonable price. our experience at this hostel surpassed our expectations and we would definitely consider staying here again if we return to Kyoto.
While the hostel had many positives, there were a few drawbacks. The kitchen facilities were quite basic, making it challenging for multiple people to cook or prep meals at the same time.
